Battersea Brody seeks someone to cuddle and care for him

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home resident, Brody, loves cuddles and has a happy-go-lucky personality – in fact those who meet him find it hard not to fall in love with him. But despite his charms, Battersea staff face a challenge in finding the right home for this lovely five year old black Labrador.

Seeing Brody play happily with his human and canine friends, nobody would guess that Brody has a medical condition similar to arthritis of the spine. Brody’s condition is called Lumbosacral Disease.

Wrap a rescue dog in love by donating blankets to Battersea this Christmas

Would you like to bring some warmth into the life of a Battersea Dogs & Cats Home dog this Christmas?

As winter takes hold of the UK, sending temperatures plummeting, the charity is appealing for the public to donate blankets (new or second-hand) to keep their residents cosy this Christmas. Battersea is currently short of bedding, and is urging people to help.

Think of your own dog snoozing comfortably, secure in your home, and imagine how delighted a Battersea dog will be to find comfort and warmth in a donated blanket.

Battersea is pleased to see key Parliamentary report on animal welfare

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is pleased with an Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee report on the welfare of domestic pets released today, 16 November.

The issue of backstreet dog breeding is one on which Battersea has long campaigned for change, and the new report addresses this subject, making several recommendations for change. Among other things, the EFRA report calls for a licence for anyone breeding more than two litters in a year, mandatory registration for all breeders, and the licensing of everyone selling animals online.

Paul O’Grady helps find Battersea’s loneliest dog a forever home

Greyhound Bud become known as Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s unluckiest dog after spending over 1000 days in the home - but thanks to Paul O’Grady, Bud’s luck has changed for the better.

Battersea staff had been trying to find Bud a home for nearly three years, then the Corns family spotted him on the ITV series Paul O’Grady: For the Love of Dogs, which is based at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.

Battersea’s longest serving volunteer clocks up 30 years support

Laurence Ackland Smith is Battersea Dogs and Cats Home’s longest serving volunteer, and has recently celebrated 30 years of supporting the charity. To mark the achievement, Battersea staff and volunteers got together at the Home to throw Laurence a celebratory party.

Tom Hardy raises money for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

Tom Hardy, star of Mad Max, is a dog lover, and recently took to the Canary Wharf trading floor of BGC partners, for their annual Charity Day. Tom’s aim was to raise funds for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.

The BGC Charity Day is held every year to remember all those who dies in the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks. Celebrities choose charities to represent and join licensed brokers on the trading floors to conduct transactions with BGC clients, with 100 per cent of the revenues from the day going to the chosen charities.

Trotty and Kenny celebrate at Battersea as their namesakes win olympic gold

Olympic fever has even gripped the residents of Battersea Dog & Cats Home! Yesterday, rescue dogs Trotty and Kenny, who were named after Olympic competitors, were delighted last night to watch their namesakes adding to their haul of medals.

The inspiration for Trotty and Kenny’s names are British cycling couple, Laura Trott and Jason Kenny. The Team GB cyclists have between them won an amazing ten gold medals at the Rio Olympics.

Battersea calls on concerned public to help change law on banned breeds

There has been a huge public response in the 24 hours since Battersea Dogs & Cats Home launched its damning report on the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. A quarter of a century since the law was passed, Battersea is calling for a repeal of Section One of the Act which outlawed four breeds of dogs from the UK: the Pit Bull Terrier, the Dogo Argentino, the Japanese Tosa and the Fila Braziliero.

Battersea Dogs GO – Gotta Catch ‘em all

Pokémon GO is taking the nation by storm, with players roaming the streets and parks in their quest to catch em’ all, and now Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is the latest to join in with the craze. Battersea dogs Ria and Abbey were joined on their morning walk in Battersea Park today by some slightly unusual companions – including Drowzee, Oddish, Psyduck, and Pidgey, all characters from the augmented reality game Pokémon GO.
