Doodles - Poodle mixes- are growing in popularity, but the Poodle mindset is not always a good fit with other breeds, and can have unexpected results. Top behaviourist and trainer Carolyn Menteith talks about her concerns for the Doodle mix. Doodle Trust founder Barb Turnbull echoes those concerns, and knows firsthand why some Doodles end up in rescue. The DogCast Radio attend DoodleFest, where Julie judges the novelty classes.

Trotty and Kenny celebrate at Battersea as their namesakes win olympic gold

Olympic fever has even gripped the residents of Battersea Dog & Cats Home! Yesterday, rescue dogs Trotty and Kenny, who were named after Olympic competitors, were delighted last night to watch their namesakes adding to their haul of medals.

The inspiration for Trotty and Kenny’s names are British cycling couple, Laura Trott and Jason Kenny. The Team GB cyclists have between them won an amazing ten gold medals at the Rio Olympics.

Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors in favour of repealing the Dangerous Dogs Act

The Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) has added its voice to the growing chorus of concern over the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA), 1991. The Act bans four types of dog, judging them by looks alone, rather than taking their behaviour into account, and the RSPCA, the Blue Cross and Battersea Dogs Home have brought out reports calling for change to the legislation.

RSPCA calls for change to BSL

The RSPCA wants people to demand that the Government launch an inquiry into how the Dangerous Dogs Act (DDA) applies breed specific legislation.

The Dangerous Dogs Act was introduced in 1991, and applies breed specific legislation via section 1. The RSPCA has this week released their report into the effectiveness of the act. Appropriately – in many ways – the report is called, Breed Specific Legislation: A Dog’s Dinner.

Poor Zola rescued from the streets

A Staffordshire bull terrier is today safe in the care of the RSPCA, after being found wandering in South Shields.

Poor Zola has been rescued by the RSPCA after she was found as a stray earlier this month. Sadly, Zola had both severe mange and an eye condition, both of which she is receiving treatment for now.

Pair of chihuahuas dumped under a hedge

Pals Tango and Cash were abandoned in a pet carrier under a hedge in Herefordshire.

A pair of chihuahuas that were dumped in a pet carrier under a hedge in Herefordshire have been rescued by the RSPCA.

The two male dogs, now named Tango and Cash, were found abandoned near to the Small Breeds Park on Kingswood Road in Kington on 16 July and RSPCA inspectors are appealing for information about what happened to them.
