Flags flying, tea flowing and tails wagging, Battersea’s dogs were the guests of honour at a special street party in Windsor to celebrate this weekend’s royal wedding.

Dogs and staff gathered just a stone’s throw away from Windsor Castle at Battersea’s Old Windsor centre to mark the impending nuptials of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

London-based animal welfare charity, Mayhew, recently held its annual Open Day event on Sunday 13th May and raised an incredible £10,000 on the day.

Mayhew threw a fantastic street party, sponsored by Lily’s Kitchen and ProtectaPet, at their Home in Kensal Green, and opened its doors to visitors for a behind-the-scenes look around the organisation.

The five-year-old is a very sociable, happy and easy going dog who loves going for walks. He goes on social walks and absolutely loves it. His walkers work very hard to make sure he joins in with as much as possible but he can't chase a ball or play and run with his friends. He enjoys running but must always be attached to his lead and the person walking him.

He has a lot of dog friends who he plays with but he hates the muzzle he has to wear as part of his exemption conditions.

Emma Hindson, from Durham, adopted Zara from her local rescue centre. Suspicions that she might be a prohibited type of dog were first raised by her dog trainer, and so Emma contacted her dog legislation officer.

Following an assessment, Zara was found to be of type but, because she was so well behaved and had good character references from the trainer, she was allowed to stay at home until the day of the court case. She was returned the following day having been exempted.

Mason, lives with Sean Andrews and his family in Enfield, London. He is on the exempted list, and has achieved his gold citizenship award in training and regularly attends shows. He’s also helped owner Sean through some difficult times.

“Shortly after Mason came home I lost my father quite suddenly and was at rock bottom,” Sean says. “I decided I needed something, or someone, to turn to and that was Mason.”

Football-loving Border collie Biki is a sweetheart but is also ‘bananas’!

Bouncy border collie Biki is full of life and bursting with energy - which seems to have been a little bit much for previous owners to handle.

Now the sweet-natured three-year-old is hoping to find her paw-fect match - an owner who can keep up with her on walks and on the pitch.

Biki was taken in by the RSPCA in October. Her latest stint in kennels is her third as the poor girl proved too energetic for her previous two homes who returned her to the RSPCA’s Macclesfield branch in Cheshire. She was originally rescued by the animal welfare charity in September 2016 when her elderly owner was sadly taken into care.

Carmen Cole, from RSPCA Macclesfield, SE Cheshire & Buxton branch, said: “Biki is bananas - and that’s what makes her unique!

“She’s got tonnes of energy and is extremely active so we’re looking for a new owner who will be able to keep up with her on long walks and play sessions in the garden.

“She’s incredibly sweet, once she gets to know you, and is very obedient, simply wanting to please.

“She has such a soft side and loves to curl up beside you on the sofa in the evening.”

RSPCA staff are hoping to find this busy-bee a rural home with experienced dog owners who can help work on her socialisation and can continue her training.

Biki is very alert and can react to loud noises so would be best in an adult-only home with no other pets in a quiet location away from busy roads.

“She’s such a fun girl who really enjoys playtime and absolutely loves footballs,” Carmen added.

“We really, really hope it’ll be third time lucky for Biki and that her new owners will be her forever home.

“We all love her for the crazy, loving girl she is and we know someone else will too.

“She’s such a wonderful dog and we know there is someone out there who will be her paw-fect match - we just need to find them!”

Owner heartbroken to give up dogs after losing his home - but RSPCA step in to help him

A man who lived on a houseboat was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to give up his dogs when his home started to sink.

He contacted the RSPCA for help with his beloved dogs - terrier-cross Arthur and Jack Russell terrier Bennie - earlier this month.

This week, RSPCA animal collection officer (ACO) Cara Gibbon went to visit the man at his houseboat in Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire.
