Battersea Dogs & Cats Home London centre takes in its 1000th dog for the year

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has taken in its 1000th dog since the beginning of the year, a four year old Akita, fittingly named Legend.
Legend was well-loved by a caring family but was handed in to the world-famous animal charity because of his owner’s allergies. Now this playful and affectionate male is ready to find new owners.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home cares for more than 5000 dogs a year across its three centres, with an average of 13 dogs arriving every day.
Two thirds of the dogs arriving at the Home are taken in after their owners are no longer able to care for them.

Shyla the Alaskan Malamute, Enzo the Dogue de Bordeaux, American Bulldog Cruz, Kimmy the Akita and Bromley the Mongrel are together heavier than English rugby prop Kieran Brookes and weigh the same as 800 packs of butter.

Harvey the Akita in the snow

Akita cross Harvey is one of Battersea’s canine residents who is enjoying the snow. However, Harvey has a thick fur coat to keep him warm. Akitas originate from the mountainous northern regions of Japan and Harvey is definitely feeling at home in today’s weather conditions.

Hachiko: A Dog's Story

I'm looking forward to seeing this film. It's based on the true story of a dog who waited for his dead master, which you can find out more about here. I just hope it's not as much of a weepy as Marley and Me was.

Take care,
