New statistics released today show black Greyhounds are the loneliest dogs at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Old Windsor centre.

While the average Battersea dog takes just 35 days to rehome – black Greyhounds at Old Windsor typically wait 55 days to find a family.

Sadly, some can take even longer to find a home – such as seven-year-old former racer Nellie who’s been at Battersea for over 100 days.

Battersea Old Windsor Centre Manager Kaye Mughal says black dogs often have a harder time catching people’s eye.

The RSPCA has teamed up with acclaimed cartoonist Rupert Fawcett - famed for his Off The Leash series - to spread the ‘Adopt Don’t Shop’ message this National Dog Day (26 August).

An animated series of the popular cartoons has been launched and, to celebrate, creator Rupert Fawcett has released a special charity cartoon supporting the work of the RSPCA - the UK’s oldest and largest animal welfare charity.

The Mayhew Animal Home is celebrating the fact that one of its longest stay residents has finally found a forever home. Poor Prince had spent almost a year – 330 days – at the home before he found his happily ever after.

Prince, an American Akita, left an impression on the home though, and even has his own “pawtrait” to commemorate his time there. That painting is now being auctioned to raise money to support The Mayhew’s vital work rescuing animals in need.

Asian communities celebrate Gods, humans and animals.

Each year in Nepal – and in Nepalese communities around the world – dogs are celebrated with the Tihar Festival. Tihal means festival of lights, and this year the RSPCA is hoping that the light will fall on some of their residents.

The five-day Tihar is observed by Hindus, and at this special time they worship their Gods as well as humans and animals. For Gorkhas, Tihar represents the divine attachment between people and other animals. This year the festival begins on 27th October.

Animal lovers and happy hounds bounded to Battersea Park for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Annual Reunion on Sunday 8 September.

Battersea Ambassadors David Gandy and Dame Jacqueline Wilson joined around five thousand owners and dogs at the free family Fun Day to show their support for the South London animal charity.
