Working collie relinquished to RSPCA after losing her hearing learns sign language so she can continue doing the job she loves!

A collie who ended up in rescue when she lost her hearing and could no longer work has learned sign language so she can continue rounding up livestock.

Eight-year-old working collie Peggy was signed over to an RSPCA officer in December 2018 when her previous owners could no longer keep her.

Animals do the funniest things. But sometimes they can get themselves in a bit of a pickle and need a helping hand to set them free.

That’s where the RSPCA comes in. The animal welfare charity’s dedicated officers and inspectors spend their days rescuing pets from cruelty, helping sick and injured animals, and freeing both domestic and wild critters from rather embarrassing situations!

Friends of ours have a pet lamb. He was an orphan, and they fancied having a pet sheep, so it worked out well for them both. He's called Shadow and he's very tame, to the point where quite dog-like he enjoys a fuss! Also dog-like he goes for a walk an a lead. He doesn't wear a collar, he has a harness, but it didn't stop Buddy and Star mistaking him for a fellow canine.

Dog training can be rife with dangers. The dog can misbehave, you can have an off day, it can pour down with rain, you can be held up by a sheep on the way home. Yes, you heard right – you can be held up by a sheep on the way home, and it happened to me the other day.

It is a delightful drive to my agility trainer’s home, the scenery is breathtaking. Buddy and I had completed a session, and I was feeling that we were progressing nicely. We were on the way home, windows down, music playing, not a care in the world. Then the sheep appeared.
