Nearly time for Hounds on the Heath 2017


Paws at the ready as The Mayhew Animal Home is set to hold one of the best dog shows of the summer on Sunday July 16th.

Hounds on the Heath will be taking place on Hampstead Heath from 11am until 4pm and will bring together an exciting mix of stalls, activities and entertainment for two-legged and four-legged visitors.

Two ‘ugly’ alien pups rescued by the RSPCA enjoy a beautiful new life

From cardboard box to goggle box, pups to star in TV series
Two ‘beautifully ugly’ French bulldog pups discovered dumped in a cardboard box are turning heads for all the right reasons now.

The scrawny bald pups were named Yoda and Mogwai by their rescuer RSPCA inspector Simon Evans because of their strange otherworldly appearance.

However after a remarkable transformation the pair have been found new homes and will play a starring role in the first episode of the new series of The Dog Rescuers on Tuesday (June 27).

Battersea English Bull Terrier up for Crufts award - Friends for Life

English Bull Terrier Bowser who was rehomed by the Kent centre of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has been nominated for a Friends for Life award at Crufts 2017. Bowser is three years old and was adopted by Sally Deegan who suffers from Multiple Sclerosis; since his adoption, he has proved to be a lifeline to Sally.

Missy is missing out on love at Battersea

Love is in the air at the moment, but one poor dog in the care of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, has been missing out on having a loving home of her own for way too long now.

Missy, who is a marvellous mongrel, has been in the charity’s care the longest of all their canine residents, and it’s high time she found her soulmate. So far, she has passed over 120 days in the London shelter – but let’s hope that Cupid can help her find a happily ever after. The average length of stay at Battersea is a month, so clearly, Missy is overdue to find a new owner.

Good news, bad news for Battersea dogs

I receive press releases every day, and this morning when I went through my emails, I spotted two which highlight the plight of too many dogs at this time of year. We know that Christmas can be a difficult time for dogs, and there are various reasons for that, the saddest being abandonment by their owner. For Rottweiler, Roger, and Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Tugz, this nightmare became reality.

Roger and Tugz were fortunate in as much as they were found and taken to Batersea Dogs & Cats Home, making them the charity’s first arrivals of 2017.

Roger is a six year old Rottweiler who is partially sighted, and was found on New Year’s Day

Celebs and their canine companions gather to support The Mayhew

On Tuesday night at The Grand Connaught Rooms in London, The Mayhew Animal Home’s Tinsel and Tails Christmas Fundraiser had plenty of glitz, glamour and of course gorgeous dogs.

James McVey from The Vamps and Stephanie Pratt were among the celebrities and their canine companions, who attended the star-studded event which honoured some of the incredible achievements The Mayhew has accomplished in 2016. The evening also aimed to raise money to ensure the charity’s vital work continues in future.

Battersea’s flexible felines show off their moves for International Yoga Day

From downward-facing cats to strays who stretch, the residents of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s cattery are feline flexible and showing off their moggie moves today to mark International Yoga Day.

The world renowned charity have an average of 220 cats across their three centres at any one time who are all practising their best balanced yoga moves in the hope of attracting a new home fur life.

Sweetheart Kira desperately seeks home

RSPCA staff can’t understand why nobody wants to take lovable dog home…

Kira is affectionate, fun, and smart. But that doesn’t seem to be enough to find this crossbreed a new home.

The two-year-old shar pei cross Staffordshire bull terrier (pictured above) arrived at the RSPCA’s Block Fen Animal Centre, in March, Cambridgeshire, in September 2015.

Staff believe potential owners are put off by Kira’s shyness around new people but have urged the public to give this sweet dog a chance.

SW11 top for rescue dogs as Battersea reveals its most popular postcodes for pooches in 2015

From Battersea to Bugnaux, canines from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home have proved there is no distance too far, as they travelled across the entire UK and even abroad to their loving homes in 2015.

Ink the Staffordshire Bull Terrier was rehomed just metres from the south London rescue centre in Battersea, but some went further than others, with Codi the Bull Mastiff making a remarkable 570 mile journey to his new home in Switzerland last year.
