As winter takes hold of the UK, sending temperatures plummeting, the charity is appealing for the public to donate blankets (new or second-hand) to keep their residents cosy this Christmas. Battersea is currently short of bedding, and is urging people to help.

Think of your own dog snoozing comfortably, secure in your home, and imagine how delighted a Battersea dog will be to find comfort and warmth in a donated blanket.

Battersea is pleased to see key Parliamentary report on animal welfare

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is pleased with an Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (EFRA) Committee report on the welfare of domestic pets released today, 16 November.

The issue of backstreet dog breeding is one on which Battersea has long campaigned for change, and the new report addresses this subject, making several recommendations for change. Among other things, the EFRA report calls for a licence for anyone breeding more than two litters in a year, mandatory registration for all breeders, and the licensing of everyone selling animals online.

Battersea Dogs GO – Gotta Catch ‘em all

Pokémon GO is taking the nation by storm, with players roaming the streets and parks in their quest to catch em’ all, and now Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is the latest to join in with the craze. Battersea dogs Ria and Abbey were joined on their morning walk in Battersea Park today by some slightly unusual companions – including Drowzee, Oddish, Psyduck, and Pidgey, all characters from the augmented reality game Pokémon GO.

It’s the canine social calendar event of the year – The Battersea Annual Reunion and Fun Day on Sunday 4 September

Come rain or shine, there’s only one place to be on Sunday 4 September: Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s Annual Reunion and Fun Day.

This free event in beautiful Battersea Park promises delicious food, stalls to peruse and a host of activities for dogs and people of all ages. There will be a range of dog classes, playgrounds and pooch paddling pools, games and activities for the people, and the chance to meet some of the charity’s homeless hounds that are looking for loving new owners.

Microchipping is the headline act as stray Staffie and Glastonbury camper are reunited at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home

It was an emotional reunion at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home as the clouds cleared from Glastonbury and a microchip proved to be the ray of hope one Staffie owner needed after her dog went missing whilst she was working at the famous festival.

Sit? Paw? Battersea’s search is on for London’s most obedient dog

Can your dog sit on command or wait while you walk away? How are they at coming back to you when called? Battersea Dogs & Cats Home is calling for London’s most obedient dogs to rally on Sunday 6 September for an elimination of the rebellious, where only the cleverest canines will be crowned ‘top dog’.

The obedience elimination is just one of many classes on offer at Battersea’s Annual Reunion and Fun Day in Battersea Park – the highlight of the charity’s canine social calendar.

Excessive baggage? Battersea sees huge increase in abandoned dogs as owners jet off on holiday

People tend to think Christmas is the busiest time for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, however Battersea has seen a 204 per cent increase this year in the number of intake calls during the first week of the school summer holidays compared with a normal week in May.

With the school summer holidays in full swing and UK airports experiencing their busiest time of the year, the world famous rescue centre has seen a surge in the number of abandoned pets as owners head to sunnier climes.
