A stray lurcher has been dubbed Britain’s most unwanted dog after being rescued from the streets but missing out on a new home for four years.
Four-year-old Sue was rescued from the Bath area and arrived at the RSPCA’s Bath Cats and Dogs Home on 22 August 2017.
After marking her fourth year at the rescue centre, staff are desperate to find this lovely girl the right home after she’s seen 941 of her kennel-mates go off to their new homes while she’s been waiting.
Chief Executive of Bath Cats and Dogs Home Rachel Jones said: “We’re at a loss as to why poor Sue hasn’t been rehomed. We all absolutely adore her and love taking her out for long walks and giving her lots of attention but we’re desperate to find her her own home.
“We believe that Sue’s colour may be putting people off. Previous research* by the RSPCA has shown that brindle dogs take around 36% longer to rehome than other colours.
“We believe Sue is around four so she was just a youngster when she came into our care and has spent her whole life with us. It really is time that she makes a fresh start with a lovely new family who can finally show her the love and security that she deserves.”
Sue is looking for an experienced owner who will be confident taking her muzzle on and off. She has some challenging behaviours, which staff have been working on with her, and her new owners will need to be happy to continue this training.
Sue was rehomed in 2018 but, unfortunately, came back into the care of the dogs home in July 2019 when her adopter’s circumstances changed. It took her some time to settle into her new home but she was getting on well when, sadly, her owners had to bring her back.
Rachel added: “Sue is a sweet and clever pup who can get a little overexcited at times so would benefit from owners who can continue her training. Sue is a chaser so we walk her on a lead with a muzzle and we don’t let her run free when we’re out and about unless we’re in a secure field. She walks nicely on the lead and would like an active home where she can enjoy going out for regular, long walks.
“She is very affectionate and loves to curl up on the sofa with you as well as get involved in a good game with her toys! She loves to meet new pals but would be best as the only pet in the home and we think she’d suit an adult-only home.
“She’s a clever pup who has already mastered basic commands like ‘sit’ and ‘paw’ but would certainly be able to pick up more. She is happy entertaining herself but would like a new owner who is initially around for most of the time. She can get overwhelmed at times in the home so will need a quiet space to relax. We’d also like her to have a secure garden.”
