Furminator - not a superhero, a grooming tool

As a Labrador owner I know all about the amount of fur that a dog can shed. The amazing amount of fur a dog can shed. The incredible, mind-blowing amount of fur a dog can shed that makes you ask the question, "How come that dog isn't completely bald now?" I brush, I sweep and I vacuum in a vain bid to keep control of the situation, but the fur builds up around the edges of the room, and clings to furniture and clothes.

If you do that too you might be interested in the Furminator:

How I would make, "Endal: the Movie"

I noticed today that Endal will be the focus of a movie. It is only fitting for such a tribute to be paid, this is the dog who was voted Dog of the Millennium. This is the dog who formed an amazing bond with a man of the brink, and together they built a partnership that cannot fail to warm the coldest, hardest heart.

Is your pet what he eats?

Burgess is a company that makes a variety of pet food, and they contacted me today with the information below. I think the survey results are interesting. Clearly, many of us are perhaps over confident when it comes to providing our pet's nutrition; nearly one third of those surveyed didn't think they needed any advice on pet food, yet over feeding, misfeeding and so on ar becoming ever bigger problems.

Dog toys are not just for dogs

If your dog is interested in toys (which I guess most are) you'll know how much a good play enriches his day. Our dogs love their toys whether it's chasing a ball or worrying away at a distraction toy to get the goodies out of it. Buddy's favourite toy of all time was his Kong Wubba, which is the only toy he ever stood up to Star over, refusing very un-Labrador-like to share it. Star loves her plush squeaky telephone toy, but she can only have supervised access to it because Buddy would see it off in two minutes flat.

What kind of dog owner are you?

I came across a really interesting article in Paw Prints The Magazine called A Dog’s Life: Relationships Between Dogs & Owners Fall into Three Categories. Apparently the three categories are humanist, protectionist and dominionist - have a read and find out which one you are. I definitely fall into the humanist category.

Greyhounds waiting for new homes

A sad story in the news today is that more than forty Greyhounds are still waiting to be rehomed over a year after the track where they raced shut down. When Walthamstow Stadium was closed, the dogs who raced there for public entertainment suddenly found themselves out of work, and since then have been languishing at Whittingham Kennels, near Waltham Abbey, Essex.

World's Tallest Dog dies

I've just heard the sad news that Gibson, the world's tallest dog has died of bone cancer. You can find out more about Gibson at his website, and you can hear his owner Sandy Hall talking about him in Episode 18 of DogCast Radio.

Sandy Hall was one of those interviewees who really touched my heart. I just felt connected to her somehow. She'd had it rough, with various family members dying, and she'd been poor and lonely. Her dogs kept her going. She clearly adored her dogs and was telling me about some toys she'd bought on sale
