However Dogs Trust would like to remind dog owners to be cautious and keep their dogs under close control to ensure they do not worry livestock or stray onto neighbouring land. It is a criminal offence to allow a dog to chase or attack livestock on agricultural land and the dog only needs to be in a field with sheep to legally constitute an offence of worrying. By law, farmers are permitted to destroy a dog that injures or worries their animals so prevention is key to ensure both animals remain safe.

The charity hopes that it may, at long last, signal some significant and effective changes to legislation in Wales.

Dogs Trust Shrewsbury hosts its annual Christmas Fayre

Staff at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury are feeling festive and getting into the Christmas spirit this year by hosting the centre’s annual Christmas Fayre on Sunday 25th November. The festive fun starts at 11.00am at the Rehoming Centre on Roden Lane Farm and finishes at 3.00pm.

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, will be helping to keep many homeless  canines cosy this Christmas after receiving an unprecedented amount of doggy jumpers knitted by over a thousand volunteers across the UK.

In September, Dogs Trust launched its “Keep Canines Cosy” campaign which urged people to knit doggy jumpers. These jumpers will be included in the Canine Christmas Hampers that the charity’s Hope Project distributes every year to dogs whose owners are homeless at Christmas.

Dogs Trust is delighted to announce that television presenters Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford have today become Patrons of the UK’s largest dog welfare charity. Annual Remembrance Service for Animals in War
 
The huge contribution made by millions of animals in military conflicts was remembered today (9th November 2012) as dogs, horses and even a mule attended a special remembrance service at the Animals in War monument on London’s Park Lane.
 
The animals attended the event alongside many of the UK’s animal welfare and advocacy organisations who laid wreaths in memory and admiration of all the animals that died whilst serving alongside their human allies.
 

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home today honoured the deep and long lasting bond between Britain’s soldiers and the dogs that work alongside them in war, by laying a wreath of poppies at the Animals in War memorial in Hyde Park, London.
 
Battersea’s Director of Operations Nigel Yeo was joined by Battersea supporter and Chelsea Pensioner Douglas Hassal, 94, who is a distinguished World War Two veteran and former Japanese prisoner of war, together with Chihuahua Betty, an ex-Battersea dog.
 

The fourteenth International Companion Animal Welfare Conference (ICAWC) was held in Vravrona, Greece last week and proved a huge success. Some 260 delegates from 31 countries, representing 124 organisations worldwide attended the three day conference beginning on the 16th October 2012.
 
The annual conference organised by Dogs Trust, welcomed friends who work in animal welfare from across the globe to network, fundraise and exchange ideas on some of the most prevalent animal welfare issues to date.
