With age comes a certain charm, and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home’s old timers have got that in bucket-loads.
Senior Staffordshire Bull Terriers Ace, Cane and Monty are currently the London rescue centre’s oldest and quirkiest characters looking for homes to retire to and spend their best years.
Despite their advanced years, these three ‘grumpy’ old men still have a lot of love and affection left to give.
Senior citizen Cane is 11 years young and is having to rely on ramps and lifts in his golden years - but don’t let this put you off. He is still full of energy and will nag you incessantly when he feels like going out for a walk or wants a snack. Cane can be set in his ways, will hear what he wants to hear and likes to be a back seat driver. However, he’s also a very sweet Staffie and will lap up any attention showered upon him and give the same in return.
Ace, another 11-year-old is a sly hoarder, collecting tennis balls wherever he can. This older gent loves routine and nothing can wake the eccentric Staffie from his afternoon nap, but when he does open his eyes he’ll smother you with kisses and he’ll make a wonderful sidekick.
Finally, nine-year-old Monty has an opinion on everything and will try to join in conversations. After his daily stroll, he can be found stretched out listening to the radio and having a nap. This senior boy is a real gent with lots of manners under his collar; he can just be quite selective about when he wants to use them. He’ll undoubtedly keep his new family entertained and covered in slobbery kisses.
Rob Young, Battersea’s Head of Dog Rehoming, said: “We love the older residents here at Battersea. They make just as good pets as the younger dogs.
“The majority of time older dogs have the basics already in place and are house trained which could save a lot of time and energy. But that doesn’t mean that they aren’t ready to learn new tricks.
“Older dogs like Ace, Cane and Monty need homes just as much as younger dogs and whoever ends up with one of these will not be disappointed.”
The three Staffies are also great ambassadors for their breed. They really are softer than you think.
Ace, Cane and Monty are finding life without a home quite tough, so if you think you could give any of our three stooges a place to rest their head for their twilight years, please contact Battersea on 0843 509 4444.
