Battersea welcomes 1000th dog of the year

World famous animal charity Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has already welcomed its 1000th dog of 2013 to its iconic London centre.

Seven week old Mongrel puppy Emerald arrived at the charity along with his mum and five littermates after his owner was no longer able to care for them and turned to Battersea to help find them a new home.

Battersea takes in an average of eight dogs every day, and precious little Emerald is just one of the thousands of dogs that Battersea will care for this year. Last year the charity cared for 5,880 dogs, nearly half of which were given up by their owners. It has seen a 70 per cent year on year increase in calls from owners seeking its help.

Rob Young, Head of Dog Rehoming at Battersea says: “Battersea’s doors are open 365 days a year to dogs and cats that are in need of our help. Emerald is an adorable little pup and we are sure it won’t be long before he catches the eye of a new family and is happily settled in a new home.”

If you can give a Battersea dog a good home please contact Battersea on 020 7622 3626 or visit www.battersea.org.uk.
