A dog massage therapist from Kent will also be using her feet to help her furry clients this weekend by running the Virgin London Marathon for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home.
Maidstone resident Lizzie Harrison will tackle the Capital’s iconic 26-mile race on Sunday in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for the much-loved animal charity.
The 28 year old masseuse, who started her mobile canine remedial massage company Healing Paws in 2010, has been supported in her arduous training by her seven year old Parson Russell Terrier Vinnie.
Lizzie, of Queensgate, said: “I’m so excited to run for Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, but a little nervous about the distance. This is my first full marathon and I chose to raise money for Battersea because, without my dog Vinnie, I would never have looked into canine massage and it has totally changed my life. Running the race is my way of giving something back to all dogs, inside and outside the Home, so they can make a difference to someone's life, like Vinnie has to mine.”
Lizzie aims to raise £2,000 for the iconic rescue centre, which cared for nearly 9,000 dogs and cats last year, by hosting pub quiz nights and sponsored walks. The charity has the biggest team it has ever entered taking part in this year’s marathon, and runners will be wearing blue Battersea vests on the day.
Dog-loving Lizzie added: “My fundraising and training was slightly delayed by last month’s wintry weather but now I just want to get out there, have fun and raise as much money as possible for Battersea. I work with a variety of dogs, and I know Battersea will try to help every dog out there if they need to find a new home.”
