A homeless dog has a new home in Castle Cary, Somerset, thanks to television presenter Alan Titchmarsh. Ruby, a Dachshund, had spent 90 days at Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Old Windsor but after appearing on the ITV Alan Titchmarsh Show she caught the eye of Liz Ayris, who made a 250 mile round trip to rehome her.
Ruby was one of several dogs and cats who appeared on the popular afternoon show looking for a home. Prospective owners had overlooked Ruby because she has a mystery skin condition that causes balding, but not Liz. She said, “I saw Ruby on the Alan Titchmarsh Show and I just couldn't resist her.”
Six year old Ruby is enjoying life in Somerset and has quickly made herself at home. Liz says, “She has settled in so well. We cuddle up on the couch when it’s cold outside, and pop out for brisk winter walks up the lane. Her skin condition isn’t an issue for me, she’s still a beautiful dog. No-one notices her skin, they just comment on how lovely she is. I am absolutely thrilled with her.”
Senior Rehomer Vicky Snook, who helped care for Ruby at Battersea Old Windsor said, “Liz is smitten with Ruby and had already knitted her a jumper when she came in to rehome her. We all really adored Ruby and we’re so pleased that she has found a home with Liz. You can tell how much she loves Ruby and that makes rehoming her to Liz very rewarding for us.”
Battersea takes in around 6,000 dogs and 3,000 cats every year, and rehomes animals all over the UK. If you can offer a home to a Battersea animal please contact 020 7622 3626 or visit www.battersea.org.uk.
