Community spirit raises funds for Dogs Trust

When dog lovers pull together they can achieve big things - even within a small community as this latest news from my local Dogs Trust shelter shows:

COMMUNITY SPIRIT HELPS RAISE POUNDS FOR HOUNDS

- Dogs Trust Shrewsbury receives £1,200 from local fundraisers

The staff and dogs at Dogs Trust Shrewsbury are over the moon this week as they received an amazing £1,200 donated by a local fundraising group who call themselves “Hair of the Dog” and are based in Coalbrookdale in Shropshire.

The funds will help support the rescue dogs currently being cared for at the newly rebuilt Rehoming Centre in Roden Lane in Telford as Louise Campbell, Dogs Trust Shrewsbury Manager, explains:
“We are delighted that local dog lovers have made such an effort to raise money to help us support our rescue dogs. £1,000 enables us to care for 50 dogs for a day at the rehoming centre - including food, water, treats and medical care which makes a tremendous difference as we receive no Government funding.”

Led by local dog lover, Karen Lloyd, the “Hair of the Dog” team have created a fabulous community spirit in Coalbrookdale where all the local establishments welcome and accept dogs and even the local pub shut for two hours whilst the fundraising event took place last weekend.

Karen Lloyd comments:
“We're a small community but we all love dogs so much that we really enjoyed planning our fundraising event. Money was raised from a whole variety of activities including homemade cakes, bread and chilli sauces, a conker competition, two charity auctions, a beer tent and even our local woodman sold kindling on the day. We also had some lovely professional stalls including a pet photographer, pet artist, chocolatier and cushion maker.”

A local folk band called Accidently Acoustic played a marathon session from noon until 8.30pm and local businesses lent their support including Coalbrookdale Inn, JustforPets, Severn Edge Vets and Wagg dog food. Over 150 people attended the event alongside many ex Dogs Trust Shrewsbury canine residents who have been rehomed to the area.

Anyone interested in Dogs Trust Shrewsbury should call 01952 770 225 or visit the centre at Roden Lane Farm, Telford, Shropshire, TF6 6BP.
