Put a stop in your dog walk
All too often, we focus on speed and distance on the dog walk - but does that really make for the best experience for us or our dog? Pennie Clayton recommends putting a stop in your dog walk, and just taking a pause to just be. This has benefits for all dogs, but especially puppies and older dogs.

Tripawd Superdogs
Have you met a three legged dog?
You may have seen one without even noticing their lack of a leg, because when a tripawd is running, it can be hard to spot that they are three legged.
When Sarah Loveland's dog, Roobi, was diagnosed with a bone tumour, and amputation was discussed, Sarah wasn't sure what life would be like post surgery. The vet was confident, and Roobi was just as full of energy and enthusiasm on three legs as she had been on four.
After a short recovery, Roobi was back to her bouncy self.
While researching the subject to help Roobi live her best life, Sarah discovered that there are many tripawd dogs living happy, healthy lives. She was inspired to celebrate their resilience, adaptability and happiness.
Tripawd Superdogs is Sarah's tribute to her own beloved three legged dog, Roobi, and to all the inspirational tripawds.
At Sarah Loveland Photography you can find the portraits Sarah took of each dog, capturing them enjoying their favourite activity. On DogCast Radio you can hear their stories:
Roobi - Roobi the kangaroo loved to leap and chase. Having a front leg removed did not not change this in anyway. Her love for a tennis ball and chasing her pals continued.
Archie - Working cocker spaniel Archie injured his elbow on a walk, leading to its eventual amputation. He moves so fast you don't notice he has three paws and not four.
Bella - The beach is Bella’s favourite place. Having a rear leg amputated due to osteosarcoma did not stop Bella enjoying playing in the sea.
Kaia- Kaia is the smallest and youngest of our tripawd superdogs. Despite injuring her leg in the garden at just 5 months of age, Kaia is a force to be reckoned with.
Nzuri - Nzuri – beautiful by name and nature - injured her leg in an accident in her own garden. She still loves swimming, chasing and the super speedy sport of flyball.
Mayhem - High energy Border Collie Mayhem, had to find an alternative to her budding agility career when she lost her leg to cancer.
Prinny - Rescue dog Prinny had already had her leg amputated when she was adopted. Prinny is a princess of speed, and having three legs does not slow her down.
Harry - It’s believed that Harry lost his leg as a result of abuse in Cyprus. But despite that, Harry is full of heart, loving life, chasing treats and being outdoors.
You can see the exhibition of all the Tripawd Superdogs portraits at the Land of Oak and Iron Cafe, Winalot Mill , NE221 6RU in July and August 2024.
