Clinical behaviourist Rachel Rodgers

Congratulations to Rachel Rodgers and behaviour service Nose to Trail who have won the Dog Trainer of the Year award for the 3rd year running with the Corporate Livewire Prestige Awards!

Julie talks to clinical behaviourist Rachel about her approach, which is grounded in science, and based on positive rewarding methods. Rachel reveals which behavioural issues owners consult her about most, as well as how we can set our dogs up for success with common problems such as meal time begging. Rachel has a team of rehabilitation trainers, with a wide range of skills, and together they can help dogs and owners find solutions to any problems they face.

Rachel says that it's never too late to help a dog, and she's happy to help people online as well as with face to face consultations. You can find out more about Rachel and join her training community at her Nose To Trail website. She's also very active on TikTok. You can hear her in Episode 204 talking about snuffle mats, and in Episode 211 discussing how to find a good dog trainer.

Author Mark E. Scott

Julie met author Mark E. Scott when she reviewed his book, First Date, and joked that her only quibble with the book is that it doesn't feature a dog. Mark revealed that he does have a dog - handsome Australian Shepherd, Brody.

Mark talks about how Brody is his running partner, as well as keeping him company on the couch. He also talks about his writing process, and he and Julie discuss his books, which includes discussion of mental health and suicide.

If you need help with suicide in the UK you can talk to The Samaritans 116 123 and in the USA it's 988. Find the number for other countries here.

Mark also makes Julie laugh with the story of how a copy of is book ended up in front of Emilio Estavez; spoiler alert your mom is often your biggest fan!
