Most dogs are - exactly as we are - selectively social. We have our friends and our families, people we want to interact with with, have fun with, talk to, go to the pub with, but that's actually quite a small group. We don't want to have everybody in the supermarket bouncing up to us, wanting to hug us, and stroke our hair.

We got her used to the sound of the bike without her on it, we got her used to being in the carrier off of the bike, so she could get used to lying in it - how you would teach a dog to be comfortable in a crate, she used it as her comfy place. it was all positive reinforcement.
