Well Informed Pet

Lowell Kaufman was on vacation with his own dog, Kona, when he realised that he needed to have easy access to her health information. He developed an app, Well Informed Pet, to allow him and others to keep track of their dog's health info. However, the app has grown, and Lowell is now investigating ways it can help trainers, rescue dogs and the greater good of dogs in general.

Here at DogCast Radio, we love people who see a need, have a vision, and follow through to achieve amazing results. You can find out more about Lowell and his app at the Well Informed Pet website, and at his blog. On social media, you can reach Lowell via facebook and instagram.

Well Informed Pet - the idea of having easy access to your pet's health information, and we extend that to allow all your caretakers to have the same access to that information, which I think is one of the more powerful things about it.

Behind the scenes at the dog grooming salon

If you live with a dog, you live with dog fur. Some dogs shed a lot, presenting the challenge of having to constantly sweep or vacuum. Those breeds who don't tend to shed present other challenges - that of grooming; and in fact all dogs can benefit from being groomed.

In this revealing, honest and funny interview, Amy Elliott-Smith takes us behind the scenes of the grooming salon, debunking myths as we go. Amy not only grooms dog, she teaches others how to become groomers, or how to groom their own dog. You can find out more about Amy at her Paw Pad Dogs website, or via Facebook or Twitter.

People absolutely adore their dogs, and rightly so. As groomers we have to understand that dogs are part of a family; they're not 'just a dog', they are loved members of families, and we treat them as such.

DogCast Radio News

In the DogCast Radio News, Julie and Jenny have dog stories from around the world. There's the dog in China who turned out to be... well, not a dog at all! A Labrador in Manchester, UK, is supporting the emotional well-being of primary school pupils, and in Felixstowe, UK, an assistance dog was banned from a GP surgery, raising several issues. An Australian survey reveals that we are pampering our dogs more than ever - but are our choices what they would choose? New research has discovered that 59 genes dictate a dog's athleticism, and Brazil' First Lady demonstrated her athleticism, when she dived into a lake to save her dog.
