These two Labradors were used to eating their food from the same bowl, and Stitch taught Cookie to share the portion between them. (Aren't dogs amazing?) And now, even after Stitch's death, Cookie still leaves half the food in the bowl for her friend.
Coincidentally, Buddy always used to eat his dinner in the lounge, while Star ate in the hall. When I was sure Star had eaten all she wanted, I would open the door between the lounge and the hall and Buddy would eat her leftovers. Now, a year and a half after she died, he still asks to be let into the hall after his dinner, and sniffs around as if checking she isn't lurking with her leftovers.
Elephants may never forget, but I don't think dogs do either.
Take care,
Julie xx
