Ricochet and Betty White honouring dead Hero Dog Stacey Mae

SURF DOG RICOCHET HOSTS FUNDRAISER IN HONOR OF HERO DOG STACEY MAE
BENEFITING BETTY WHITE'S HUMANE HEROES CLUB/AMERICAN HUMANE ASSOCIATION
BETTY WHITE WILL MATCH UP TO $25,000 IN DONATIONS TO THIS FUND!

SAN DIEGO, CA, October 8, 2012… Surf dog Ricochet, the SURFice dog is hosting a fundraiser as a special tribute to Stacey Mae, who suddenly died on Saturday after choking on a biscuit. Proceeds from this fundraiser will benefit Betty White's Humane Heroes Club campaign, which is an initiative of hers for the American Humane Association

Ricochet was planning to auction off the red carpet dress that she wore to the second annual American Humane Association's Hero Dog Awards last Saturday to charity. But, in a devastating turn of events, when dinner started at the Hero Dog awards, Ricochet got word that Stacey Mae had died. She was home with her owner, Maria Mandel when she choked on a dog biscuit. Despite Maria's frantic attempts to help Stacey, she wasn't able to save her beloved dog.

Ricochet and Stacey Mae met last year when they both received hero dog awards at the 2011 event, so Ricochet felt the best way to pay tribute to Stacey was to host a fundraiser in her honor. Since Stacey died on the anniversary of her own hero dog award, the American Humane Association seemed to be the perfect fit as a beneficiary.

When Ricochet's guardian, Judy Fridono told Betty White that Ricochet's dress was made to raise funds for animals in need, she shrieked in delight. So Ricochet felt the perfect AHA campaign to support would be Betty White's Humane Heroes Club. Betty will match up to $25,000 in donations to this fund. Ricochet's goal is to raise the entire $25,000 so Betty can match the other $25,000... raising $50,000 to meet Betty's goal while honoring Stacey, and helping animals.

Contributions to Betty White's Humane Heroes Club will benefit the American Humane Association’s Red Star™ Rescue teams across the nation who provide emergency food, first aid, shelter and adoption services to animals affected by natural disasters and other catastrophic events. For more information, and to donate, please go to http://bit.ly/RedCarpetDressFundraiser. If you're not able to donate, please share this fundraiser with your friends.

Since Ricochet's dress was made specifically to raise funds through an auction, donors will still have the opportunity to win it through a random drawing. In addition to the dress, donors will have the chance to win the boa that Stacey Mae wore on Rodeo Drive during the 2011 Hero Dog Awards.

Ricochet's one of a kind dress was custom made especially for her by designer, RL Couture by Lucy Medeiros who donated the dress valued at $280. The ocean was the key inspiration for the beautifully hand crafted sequin dress that shimmers in the light with its double layered full organza skirt mimicking waves swirling in the sea. The peacock feathers represent Ricochet's lifestyle of showing your true colors, and staying true to yourself.

Ricochet's heart is broken at the passing of her dear friend Stacey Mae, but she is comforted by knowing this fundraiser, and Betty White's matching donations will pay tribute to an outstanding therapy dog, hero, and friend while helping animals through the American Humane Association. Ricochet's thoughts are with the Mandel family during this extremely difficult time.
