April pet celebrations in USA & UK

April looks like being a busy month pet-wise. This month is the ASPCA's Prevention of Cruelty to Pets Month. There are loads of suggestions on the site for ways you can support the charity in promoting the message of treating animals properly, and raise money for them. If you're stuck for ideas on how to join in check out the 10 Ways to Celebrate page. The ASPCA was founded in 1866 by Henry Bergh, and has been doing a great job for animals ever since.

In the UK, the 4th April to the 4th May is National Pet Month. This campaign seeks to raise money for various charities and promote awareness of pet health. There's a Photographic Competition and celebrations culminate at the Ultimate Pet Show on the 2nd-4th May at the NEC. There's a clickable map of the UK so you can find out what's on in your area. Apparently this is National Pet Month's twentieth year.

Spring is traditionally a time when people give their houses a good clean and tidy - "spring cleaning". Maybe it's also a good time to have a sort out of our priorities, and to give some due consideration to the animals in our lives - dogs, cats, hamsters, whatever! - who enrich it so much, and to spare a thought for animals still waiting for a good home. I hope the April pet celebrations go really well and achieve their aims. Happy April!

Take care,
