Pet obesity paw-demic: Survey reveals thousands of Scottish pets have gained weight over lockdown

Latest research has revealed that a whopping 160,000 furry friends have gained weight in Scotland since March 2020 – contributing towards a total of 1.4 million pets across the UK who have done so during lockdown.

Vet charity PDSA says that the worrying findings unveil the true extent of what was already a growing pet obesity epidemic, with the pandemic creating a ticking time bomb threatening the lives of pets across the UK.

When two boys befriended a dog who was on her own in a Surrey park, they realised she needed help. Her microchip revealed the dog had been stolen from her home in Scotland. Happily she is back where she belongs. Fiona Gibson wrote her novel, The Dog Share, with her own dog by her side - she talks about her creative process. Julie reveals she is working on podcasting about a project she and Buddy worked on - Crufts or Bust.

Dogs Trust deeply saddened by reintroduction of tail docking in Scotland

Dogs Trust, the UK’s largest dog welfare charity, is extremely disappointed that MSPs on the Environment, Climate Change and Land Reform Committee (ECCLR) have today voted to reintroduce the painful procedure of tail docking for certain breeds of dogs in Scotland (Tuesday 13 June).

The new legislation on tail docking would see spaniel or hunt point retriever puppies less than five days old have the end third of their tails amputated, with no anaesthetic or pain relief, where there is a chance that they may become working dogs.

Charity dog wash at The Ark this Saturday

The Ark is a place for dog and cat grooming, animal photography, behaviour and training advice, memorial area, bereavement services and more. It's in Perth in Scotland, and this Saturday The Ark is having a charity dog wash to raise money for Canine Partners. You can have your dog professionally bathed at £6 for small dogs and £8 for large ones and all money goes to the charity. Also, 10% of bookings made on the day for full grooming, photography or behaviour sessions will go to Canine Partners.

Scotland the great holiday destination (and trouble at home)

We have just returned from a brilliant holiday in Scotland – a peaceful isolated dog-friendly cottage, Loch Ness just minutes away, beautiful scenery and lots to do,; who could ask for more? We loved it and so did Buddy and Star.

We stayed at Rowan Cottage (www.lochnesshideaways.co.uk/) and our host Janet made us feel very welcome indeed. The dogs accompanied us on a gondola trip up the Glen Nevis range near Fort William (www.nevisrange.co.uk/summer/index.asp), as well as enjoying a boat trip on Loch Ness (www.jacobite.co.uk/).
