Ensure your dog is a healthy weight with the PDSA Big Weigh In

With one month left to go, PDSA and Royal Canin are calling on pet owners across the whole of the UK to take advantage of a free weight check for their four-legged friend by signing up to the new ‘Big Weigh In’ initiative.

The new PDSA Big Weigh In initiative is taking place throughout February and March 2023 and is in its final month countdown to join in! The campaign is in conjunction with veterinary practices across the UK to help the pet population shed some pounds.

A weight loss success story is Roscoe, a 13-year-old American Bulldog who initially came into PDSA's care weighing a whopping 75kg and after a tremendous effort from his owner, Craig, Roscoe has managed to shed over 23kg and he is very nearly at his ideal weight!

Hello Dolly! Longstay Battersea resident gets forever home

According to some, Blue Monday (15 January), is the most depressing day of the year - but Battersea Dogs & Cats Home Brands Hatch has some very good news to cheer everyone up.

Dolly, who spent an incredible 440 days at the world-famous rescue centre in Kent, sang her Battersea swansong and finally found herself a home to call her own.

The American Bulldog, now three years old, arrived at Battersea Brands Hatch in October 2016 after her previous owner moved house and was unable to take Dolly with her.

RSPCA appeals for information on pedigree Bulldog found abandoned on the street

The RSPCA is appealing for information about a pedigree Victorian Bulldog found abandoned in Dagenham, East London.

They have named the tan-and-white female dog Princess, and estimate her age to be around 5 years old. She was found by a member of the public on Academy Way on Monday, 6th February, in the early hours of the morning. No only severely underweight, poor Princess was poorly, with a damaged tail and overgrown nails. She is beginning her recovery and receiving treatment from the charity.

Can these dogs find love for Valentine’s Day?

With Valentine’s Day looming, let’s spare a thought for the most “unloved” dogs in the RSPCA’s care. In general, it takes a cat, dog or rabbit in the care of the RSPCA 39 days to find a new home – but for some unfortunate animals, it takes longer. And sometimes, it seems, their breed has a bearing on the length of their stay at a shelter.

Analysing the data, the charity has found that American Bulldogs are the breed most likely to spend the longest time waiting for their forever home. 66 days is the average length of time and American Bulldog spends at the RSPCA.

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home has a weighty task on its hands - to rehome its heaviest dogs.

Five of the charity’s chunkiest canines weighing a combined total of 450 pounds are looking for new owners that can handle a whole lot of pooch.

Shyla the Alaskan Malamute, Enzo the Dogue de Bordeaux, American Bulldog Cruz, Kimmy the Akita and Bromley the Mongrel are together heavier than English rugby prop Kieran Brookes and weigh the same as 800 packs of butter.
