Battersea’s hunt for the UK’s Prize Pooch

Battersea Dogs & Cats Home hopes to sniff out a new top dog model in a nationwide search to find the furry face of Venture Photography.

The world renowned animal charity is supporting the hunt for the UK’s cutest canine as part of Venture Photography’s Prize Pooch competition. The lucky winner will be the star of the nationwide chain of photo studios and win a VIP tour of Battersea’s iconic London centre, hundreds of pounds worth of doggy treats and stylish accessories at pet retailer Oscar & Hooch, and £500 to spend on pet ‘pawtraits’ at Venture.

Rob Young, Battersea’s Head of Dog Rehoming, said: “We are so excited to be involved in Venture Photography’s Prize Pooch competition to find the UK’s next top dog. All sorts of dogs come through our gates and we know there are some striking furry faces out there that would be perfect for a close-up. We believe all dogs are beautiful in their own special way but there can only be one winner and we can't wait to see that lucky dog’s million dollar lick!”

Judges from Battersea, online dog community group Park Bench and Venture will have the difficult task of choosing the canine champion. Budding model mutts can enter the competition by taking part in a photo shoot in one of Venture’s 30 UK studios, which will each put forward a regional winner to the final as voted by the public. As well as the prizes listed, the winning image will also feature in Venture studios in the UK, Hong Kong and US.

Richard Mayfield, Venture Photography’s Creative Director, said: “We’re looking for an eye-catching dog with lots of character to crown as our Prize Pooch and we look forward to having a lot of fun throughout our search as we welcome dogs and owners into our studios. Venture is also a proud supporter of Battersea Dogs & Cats Home and throughout the campaign we’ll be continuing our fundraising to support and promote this important and much-loved cause.”

Voting will close on 30 June and regional winners will be announced on 8 July before an overall national winner is announced on 22 July. Family and friends can show their support by visiting www.pooch.venturephotography.co.uk and voting for participating dogs on an online gallery.
