Bulldog breed profile

Training and intelligence
Bulldogs have strong characters and can be stubborn. They are not stupiud, and can learn quickly if you can persuade their is something in it for them. Patience, encouragement and rewards will serve you well when training your Bulldog.

Temperament
The nature of the Bulldog is not what you might expect from that fierce looking face - they are good natured, patient and level headed. They are kind, brave and genlte, but they have a sense of humour, and will not necessarily want to things your way.

Attitude towards strange dogs and people
Despite that feasrome expression, Bulldogs are not aggressive. Careful breeding has meant that today's Bulldog is friendly towards both people and dogs. They do not have guarding instincts, although many people are frightened just by the look of them.

Grooming and shedding
Bulldogs have the advantage of being short coated dogs, so they don't need much grooming. Their short coats do shed a little though.

Exercise
The Bulldog tends to want to be a couch potato, and is happy on a sofa. You must find ways of making exercise fun for him, as he needs it to be healthy.

Need for company
Bulldogs love their families, especially children, and they love to be with them.

General
Do be careful with your Bulldog in very hot weather, as they can overheat. Many Bulldogs have to be born by Caesarian as the bitch's slim hips cannot pass the large heads of her puppies.
